About Kompetenzzentrum für Kinder und Jugendbeteiligung Brandenburg

The Kompetenzzentrum für Kinder und Jugendbeteiligung Brandenburg (KiJuBB) is a central point of contact for the promotion and support of the participation of children and young people in the state of Brandenburg. Under the sponsorship of the Stiftung Wohlfahrtspflege Brandenburg, a community foundation of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband, the KiJuBB has been offering comprehensive consulting and qualification services since 2002. The goal is to strengthen the participation rights of young people and promote their active involvement in social processes.

    Key Products and Services

The KiJuBB supports children and youth committees such as advisory boards, parliaments, and forums in Brandenburg. It provides consulting, networking, and qualification for children and youth representatives as well as educational professionals. The work of the competence center is divided into four main areas: the specialist office for children and youth participation (“municipal”), the specialist office for participation in educational assistance (HzE), the area of children and youth committees, and the Youth Forum for Sustainability (JuFoNa).

    Mission and Values

The mission of the KiJuBB is to build bridges between generations and promote the participation rights of children and young people. The center advocates for a partnership-based collaboration on equal terms between young people, administration, politics, and professionals. The values of the KiJuBB are based on dialogue, co-design, and education to create a livable present and future for young people.

    Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

The Youth Forum for Sustainability (JuFoNa) is a central component of the sustainability initiatives of the KiJuBB. It promotes awareness and active participation of young people in sustainable development processes. The competence center also supports the implementation of the new Children and Youth Act in Brandenburg, which places child protection and the participation of young people at its core. Through participation workshops and statements, the KiJuBB contributes to ensuring that the interests of young people are included in legislative processes.

    Current Developments

The KiJuBB regularly organizes events such as the dialogue forum for children and young people in educational assistance and the nationwide workshop day “Leaving Care.” These platforms provide space for exchange and the development of new support forms in the transition to independence. Additionally, the KiJuBB actively engages in the accompaniment and support of election processes for youth committees to promote the political participation of young people.

The Kompetenzzentrum für Kinder und Jugendbeteiligung Brandenburg is a pioneer in promoting the participation of children and young people at the state level and continuously advocates for the strengthening of the rights and co-determination of young people.
