editThe Kinderstadt Hamburg is an innovative and democracy-educational program initiated by the Patriotische Gesellschaft von 1765 e.V. and has been conducted since 2021. Since 2024, the project is being realized in close collaboration with the educational center and provider for child and youth welfare, dock europe e.V.
Key Products and Services
editThe main offering of Kinderstadt Hamburg is a free holiday program that takes place annually during the summer holidays. Here, children and teenagers between the ages of 7 and 15 have the opportunity to build and design their own city. The program includes a variety of creative and interactive activities, such as playing on mud hills, creating in a beauty salon, broadcasting on their own radio, and participating in a city assembly. These activities promote cooperative play, creative design, and social learning among the participants.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of Kinderstadt Hamburg is to promote children and teenagers in a democratic and self-determined environment. The program aims to convey to the participants in a playful and practical way how community is organized, how politics arises from ideas, and how interests are represented. Values such as self-determination, creativity, social learning, and community are at the forefront.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editKinderstadt Hamburg is committed to sustainable and long-term educational goals. Through the involvement of volunteers and support from various organizations within the urban network, it is ensured that the program is supported in a broad and diverse manner. The support from Christl and Michael Otto underscores the long-term commitment to this project. Additionally, special emphasis is placed on child protection, with an external independent complaint office and an educational management that addresses suggestions, criticism, and complaints.
Current Information
editIn 2024, Kinderstadt Hamburg will take place in the first two weeks of the summer holidays (from July 22 to August 2) on the Parks site in Hammerbrook. The program offers a variety of activities daily from 10 AM to 4 PM, with up to 500 children able to participate. Registration takes place on-site, and admission is free.
