KATE sees itself as an environmental and development policy organization that aims to responsibly shape a sustainable world through environmental and development policy educational work.
Mission and Values
editKATE strives to promote a sustainable world through educational work that focuses on environmental and development policy issues. The organization critically engages with conventional development strategies and links environmental and development topics to enable a sustainable and just future.
Key Products and Services
editKATE offers a variety of educational programs and materials for different age groups. Some of the most well-known projects include:
- The Climate Breakfast – How Our Food Affects the Climate: A program that teaches children and young people about the impact of their eating habits on the climate.
- My Mobile Phone and I – The Global Consequences of Mobile Phone Use: A project that addresses the social and ecological consequences of mobile phone consumption.
- A Good Life for All?! – The Consequences of Our Lifestyle Using Everyday Consumer Goods as an Example: A program that discusses the impacts of everyday consumption on the environment and society.
- Berlin Development Policy Educational Program (benbi): An annual program in which over 2,000 students and about 20 NGOs participate to engage with socially relevant topics.
- Climate Future Conference and Award Ceremony of the Berlin Environmental Schools: KATE supports these initiatives in cooperation with the Berlin Senate Administration.
- Training and Workshops: For multipliers, such as the training "Climate-Friendly Nutrition & Sustainability in Preschool and Primary School Education."
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editKATE is actively committed to achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promotes education for sustainable development (BNE). The thematic focuses include:
- Nutrition: With a focus on climate-friendly nutrition and sustainable food production.
- Globalization: Through South-North projects where young adults and students from different countries collaborate.
- Climate: With projects like the "Climate Breakfast" and support for climate agreements in schools.
- Sustainable Consumption and Production: Through educational materials and workshops on the consequences of consuming everyday goods.
- Sustainable Economic Growth/Work: By highlighting the importance of sustainable business practices.
- Reduction of Global Inequalities: Through educational work that focuses on global connections and social justice.
KATE works interdisciplinarily and advocates for a holistic transformation of learning and teaching environments. The organization empowers and mobilizes youth and promotes sustainable development at the local level, particularly through the coordination of the benbi program and participation in the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development.
Current Initiatives
editKATE regularly offers new and innovative projects, such as the annual benbi family weekend, which invites children and their companions to participate in activities, and specific training for multipliers to promote competency development among educators and multipliers.
