Institut für Restorative Praxis

The Institut für Restorative Praxis (IRP-Berlin) pursues the vision of a society where people are seen and respected with their needs. The main mission of IRP-Berlin lies in promoting relationships and taking responsibility, rather than focusing on guilt and punishment. The institute advocates for a culture in which conflicts are understood as normal and valuable opportunities for growth and self-discovery.

• Restorative Practices and Restorative Justice: IRP-Berlin offers workshops, training, and events aimed at proactively building relationships and a sense of community to prevent destructive conflicts and misconduct. Restorative justice focuses on victim-oriented processes to address the consequences of crimes and wrongdoings[1].

• Nonviolent Communication (NVC): The institute has been working with Nonviolent Communication according to Marshall Rosenberg since 2006 and offers corresponding training and workshops[4].

• Online and In-Person Workshops: Regular workshops, such as the free online workshop "Restorative Practices - An Introduction" and the online information evening for training in NVC-Mediation, provide insights and practical guidance in restorative approaches[1].

• Exhibitions and Events: IRP-Berlin lends and presents exhibitions such as the "Forgiveness Project," which shares stories of forgiveness and understanding[1].

• Promotion of a Positive and Safe School Climate: The institute is involved in model projects aimed at promoting a positive and safe school climate through restorative practices. A closing event for this project took place on October 17, 2024, in Berlin[1].

• Community Building and Dialogue Culture: By using circles as a form of encounter, the building of relationships and dialogue culture in various social contexts is promoted. These circles give space to all aspects of human experience (mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual)[1].

• Inclusive and Conflict-Open Communities: The goal of IRP-Berlin is to create a sustainable climate of connectedness in which people can live and grow in a caring and conflict-open community[1].

The institute offers a variety of current offers and events, including the free online workshop "Restorative Practices - An Introduction" and the online information evening for training in NVC-Mediation. Additionally, an online training in NVC-Mediation with six modules will start in February 2025[1].

IRP-Berlin continuously advocates for the dissemination and implementation of restorative practices in various areas of society to promote a culture of understanding, empathy, and responsibility.
