The IFAF Berlin is an innovative research network that consolidates the research expertise of the four state-run Berlin universities of applied sciences. The participating universities include the Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin, the Beuth Hochschule für Technik Berlin, the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin, and the Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht Berlin.

The main mission of the IFAF Berlin is to promote science and applied research through the ideological and financial support of collaboration among the universities involved in IFAF Berlin on joint projects. The goal is to pool the competencies of the Berlin universities to transfer research results into practice and develop social, technological, and economic solutions for the future of our society. Interdisciplinary and cross-university collaboration, as well as strengthening the cooperation capabilities of universities with regional companies and non-profit organizations, are the focus[2][3].

The IFAF Berlin offers a variety of funding lines and services:

• IFAF EXPLORATIV: Supports professors in initiating research projects, including exploring new research ideas and finding partners, with funding of up to 10,000 euros over six months[1].
• IFAF TRANSFER: Promotes the technology and knowledge transfer of results from IFAF joint projects into practice, with funding of up to 150,000 euros over twelve months[1].
• IFAF KOFINANZIERUNG: Co-finances national or EU projects with up to 20% of the total costs of the applying university[1].
• IFAF VERBUND: Supports projects involving at least two of the universities participating in IFAF Berlin and at least one regional company or non-profit organization, with funding of up to 250,000 euros over two years[1].
• IFAF ERGEBNISSICHERUNG: Supports the securing of achieved results through measures such as publications, open access, and public relations, with funding of up to 10,000 euros[1].

The IFAF Berlin makes an important contribution to the innovation and future viability of the Berlin-Brandenburg region. By promoting application-oriented research and transferring research results into practice, IFAF Berlin contributes to solving social and economic challenges. Collaboration with medium-sized companies and non-profit organizations ensures the practical relevance and sustainability of research projects. In the last ten years, the four universities have collaborated on over 80 projects and addressed application-oriented questions from more than 280 practical partners, significantly strengthening interdisciplinary and practice-oriented research in the region[4].
