The Media Forward Fund is a philanthropic initiative dedicated to promoting media diversity and independent journalism in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The goal is to contribute to higher quality journalism with viable business models that publishes strong, trustworthy content and is sustainably funded in the long term.

The fund supports media organizations that are committed to the common good and develop innovative business models to improve their financial stability. There is a particular focus on target groups that have previously been underserved by the media. The Media Forward Fund offers financial support in the form of project and organizational funding, as well as supplementary support such as capacity building through the "Upskilling" program.

The Media Forward Fund pursues the goal of strengthening journalism and thus democracy. The selection of funded projects is made by an independent jury, which is based on criteria such as transformation, user orientation, diversity, independence and quality.

The fund is committed to a sustainable media landscape and plans thematic funding lines that focus, among other things, on climate, environmental and health journalism. By supporting media that are dedicated to these important topics, the Media Forward Fund contributes to an informed and engaged society.
