Haus für Poesie

The Haus für Poesie, founded in 1991 under the name Literaturwerkstatt Berlin and since 2016 under its current name, is a central literary organizer in Berlin located in the Kulturbrauerei. It promotes and supports all areas of literature, especially poetry, both as written word and in connection with other arts and media.

• Lyrikline: The world's largest online portal for contemporary poetry, where poems by over 1500 poets can be heard and read in more than 90 languages[2][3][4].
• Poesiefestival Berlin: The largest poetry festival in Europe, which annually brings around 150 renowned poets and artists from all over the world to Berlin and presents contemporary poetry in all its diverse forms[2][3][5].
• Open Mike: A renowned literary competition for young German-speaking prose and poetry authors, which has existed since 1993 and promotes literary talent[2][3].
• Lyrikwerkstatt open poems: A platform for promoting young poets, where young writers can work on their own writing and find access to poetry[2][3].
• VERSschmuggel: A translation project where German-speaking and international poets translate each other to create high-quality translations[2][3].

The main mission of the Haus für Poesie is to promote access to poetry and understanding of poetry among the population. It brings poets from all over the world to Germany and conveys German authors abroad. A special focus is on promoting young writers and inspiring children and young people for poetry[1][2][3].

The Haus für Poesie is committed to the long-term promotion of poetry and literary culture. It has built a comprehensive audio archive that contains recordings from almost all events and is being gradually published. Through collaboration with partner institutions in over 50 countries, international networking and the exchange of poetry are promoted. Additionally, the Haus für Poesie offers a participatory program for poetic (further) education that includes writers and educators and supports the poetic education of children and young people[1][2][3].

The Haus für Poesie regularly celebrates milestones, such as the 25th anniversary of Lyrikline, which will be celebrated in November 2024. These celebrations include recordings of new poets as well as readings that highlight the diversity and significance of poetry[4].

Through its diverse activities and initiatives, the Haus für Poesie has carved out a unique place in the literary landscape of Germany and the world and tirelessly advocates for the promotion and dissemination of poetry.
