Hans R. Neumann Stiftung
The
Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS) - A private foundation with global reach
editAbout us
editThe Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS) is a private foundation established in 2005 by Michael R. Neumann and his family. Named after the founder's father, Hanns R. Neumann, the foundation builds on a long-standing tradition of collaboration with coffee farming families that has been established since 1991 through the company Embden, Drishaus & Epping Consulting.
Mission and Values
editThe HRNS focuses on three central goals:
- Livelihood: Improving the living conditions of coffee farming families in tropical rural areas.
- Nature and Environment: Protecting nature and the environment through good agricultural and climate-smart practices, including adaptation to and mitigation of the impacts of climate change.
- Youth: Promoting the prospects of disadvantaged youth worldwide, both in Germany and in coffee-growing regions[2].
Global Presence
editThe HRNS operates in seven countries, including Indonesia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Brazil, Honduras, and Guatemala, with its headquarters in Hamburg. With over 250 employees worldwide and six regional offices, the foundation is closely connected to local communities and is often perceived as part of the family[1].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe HRNS is strongly committed to implementing projects that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the 2030 Agenda. In particular, the foundation focuses on the "coffee&climate" (c&c) initiative, which focuses on adaptation to and mitigation of the impacts of climate change. This initiative was launched by the members of the International Coffee Partners (ICP), a pre-competitive initiative of seven family-owned European coffee companies[1].
Partnerships and Funding
editThe funding for HRNS projects comes from private and public partners, including private foundations, government agencies, and coffee companies. Through these partnership funding models, the foundation can increase the impact of its projects and strengthen local leadership through decentralized implementation structures[1].
Youth Promotion in Germany
editIn addition to its international work, the HRNS is also active in Germany, particularly in Northern Germany, where it has been supporting the social and economic integration of youth with and without a migration background since 2016. This approach reflects the global networking and commitment of the foundation to people and the environment, which operates both locally and globally[1].
The Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung is a vibrant example of sustainable and responsible action, exerting a positive influence on the living conditions of coffee farming families and disadvantaged youth worldwide through its comprehensive projects and initiatives.
