German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS)

The German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) is one of the world's leading research institutes and think tanks for global sustainable development. Founded in 1964 in Berlin and based in Bonn since 2000, IDOS has become a central actor in international development policy and sustainability research.

The main mission of IDOS is to support a global common good policy through interdisciplinary research, impact-oriented consulting, and international training. • Transformation of Political (Dis)Order: This program investigates the normative and institutional prerequisites that enable policy and policymaking for the common good[1][3].

IDOS is strongly committed to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and implementing the 2030 Agenda. It works closely with international partners and networks to promote sustainable development pathways. Examples include participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) and research within the framework of the project "BioCAM4 - Biodiversity Integration in Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Actions for Planet, People, and Human Health"[4][5].

IDOS advises German and international actors and institutions in development cooperation based on independent, empirically supported scientific research. It also offers training programs for graduates and young professionals, such as the nine-month postgraduate program for a career in development cooperation and the Managing Global Governance (MGG) Academy[3][5].

IDOS is a member of the Johannes Rau Research Community and collaborates with research networks and partners from academia and practice in all world regions. It maintains close relationships with international organizations, governments, and think tanks to consolidate global discourses and develop solutions for transnational and global challenges[3][5].
