About Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie Deutschland
editThe Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie Deutschland (GWÖ) is a forward-looking economic model that sees itself as an ethical alternative to traditional capitalism. Founded in 2010 in Vienna, the movement has spread worldwide and today counts over 11,000 supporters, 4,500 members in more than 170 regional groups, and over 1,000 accounted companies in 35 countries. The GWÖ aims for an economy based on the values of human dignity, ecological responsibility, solidarity, social justice, democratic participation, and transparency.
Key Products and Services
editThe GWÖ offers a range of tools and services that support companies, communities, educational institutions, and individuals in aligning their economic activities with the common good. Central instruments include the Gemeinwohl-Matrix, the Gemeinwohl-Bilanz, and the Gemeinwohl-Produkt. These tools help organizations measure and improve their social and ecological impact. Additionally, the GWÖ provides workshops, educational offerings, and consulting services to implement the principles of the Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie in practice.
Mission and Values
editThe mission of the Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie is to promote an ethical economic culture that systematically addresses pressing global challenges such as resource scarcity, climate crisis, and social inequality. The GWÖ advocates for an economy that prioritizes the common good over profit while improving the quality of life for all people. The values of the GWÖ – human dignity, ecological responsibility, solidarity, social justice, democratic participation, and transparency – are the guiding principles that shape all activities and initiatives of the movement.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie is actively committed to sustainable development and supports the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By promoting durable, sustainable products and strengthening regional value chains, the GWÖ contributes to an environmentally friendly and socially just economy. The movement advocates for good and meaningful jobs and promotes a more humane economic interaction. Concrete approaches for meaningful environmental and climate policy are an integral part of the GWÖ strategy.
A Global Movement
editThe Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie is active not only in Germany but worldwide. With a network of supporters and organizations in numerous countries, the GWÖ spreads its vision of a common good-oriented economy and continuously develops it further. International cooperation and the exchange of best practices are crucial for the success and further development of the movement.
The Gemeinwohl-Ökonomie Deutschland invites all interested parties to become part of this movement and actively contribute to shaping a sustainable and just economy.
