Gyhum looks back on a long history that dates back to the Middle Stone Age. The 1,000-year-old St. Margarethen Church in Gyhum, one of the oldest fieldstone churches in the region, is a special landmark. The von Hammerstein manor in Bockel with its over 400-year-old oak tree is also worth a visit.
The municipality values an active village life. Sports clubs, fire departments and shooting clubs as well as the Spielmannszug Hesedorf contribute to the community with their diverse activities. A heated outdoor pool and a spacious campsite in Hesedorf offer attractive leisure opportunities.
Gyhum is conveniently located on the A1 "Hansalinie" and the B71. The wooded nature with its well-equipped hiking trails invites you to relax. Natural beauties, stone and burial mounds as well as nature and bird sanctuaries in the surrounding area offer a variety of exploration opportunities.
A special place in Gyhum is Nartum, where the writer Walter Kempowski lived. The Kempowski Foundation "Haus Kreienhoop" commemorates his work and regularly organizes literary afternoons.
The municipality of Gyhum strives to offer its citizens a livable environment and to preserve the traditions of the region.
