Fraunhofer UMSICHT is a leading research institute dedicated to the development of technologies for a sustainable future. The institute focuses on the areas of Carbon Management, Circular Economy, Green Hydrogen and Local Energy Systems to make concrete contributions to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

The institute develops materials and processes for the circular economy, researches the electrochemical production, use and storage of green hydrogen and works on the transformation of energy supply for neighborhoods and industries. Fraunhofer UMSICHT researches processes for the sustainable use of carbon and develops solutions that make a decisive contribution to a resource-saving society and economy.

The mission of Fraunhofer UMSICHT is to contribute to a world worth living in through technical innovations, in which nature and civilization are not in contradiction. The institute strives for efficient processes, environmentally friendly technologies and sustainable products. Sustainability is understood as a lived practice, with a focus on changing raw material and energy supplies and the transition from a linear to a circular economic system.

Fraunhofer UMSICHT also offers scientific training and consulting services for companies and institutions within the framework of the UMSICHT Academy in order to qualify specialists and managers and to support the development of personnel development concepts.
