Fair Toys Organisation
The
Fair Toys Organisation e.V.
editThe Fair Toys Organisation e.V. (FTO) is an innovative multi-stakeholder initiative that advocates for socially and environmentally sustainable toy production. Founded on July 14, 2020, in Nuremberg, the FTO brings together companies from the toy industry, civil society organizations, trade unions, municipalities, and academic institutions to jointly establish higher standards in toy manufacturing.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the FTO is the development and awarding of a seal that stands for fair and environmentally friendly toy production. This seal is intended to provide a credible guarantee for dignified working conditions and environmentally sustainable manufacturing processes throughout the entire supply chain. The FTO is based on a multi-stakeholder approach that ensures maximum transparency and credibility through the involvement of various actor groups.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editA central goal of the FTO is the continuous improvement of social and environmental standards in the toy industry. To this end, the FTO supports and advises member companies in implementing human rights due diligence and environmentally friendly practices. Regular reviews and action plans are created to identify deficiencies and develop solution strategies. The FTO also promotes pilot projects and "Best Practice Lab" initiatives to test and disseminate innovative approaches.
Working Method
editThe FTO operates with a bicameral system that ensures equal representation of members from the toy industry and civil society. Decisions require a double majority to consider the interests of all parties involved. The organization is funded through government grants and membership fees.
Current Developments
editIn September 2023, the FTO awarded its seal for social and ecological responsibility for the first time to the member companies Heunec and Plasticant Mobilo. This marks an important milestone in recognizing companies that are highly committed to fair working conditions and ecological sustainability.
The Fair Toys Organisation also serves as a learning platform to develop solutions for common challenges in the industry and to increase influence among producers. Through the public communication of membership and the efforts of member companies, transparency and trust among consumers are promoted.
