Expedition Grundeinkommen

The Expedition Grundeinkommen is a non-profit and donation-funded movement that advocates for the introduction of an unconditional basic income (UBI) in Germany. Our mission is to explore the opportunities and risks of a UBI through direct democracy and scientifically accompanied model trials, and to prepare society for the possibility of comprehensive social and economic change.

• Model Trials: We initiate and conduct state-funded and scientifically accompanied model trials for the unconditional basic income in various federal states, particularly in Berlin, Hamburg, and Bremen. These trials run over a period of three years and include both a test group receiving the basic income and a comparison group that does not receive it[3][4].

• Research and Science: In close collaboration with the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) and the Freiburg Institute for Basic Income Studies (FRIBIS) at the University of Freiburg, we ensure that our model trials are conducted according to the highest scientific standards. This allows us to comprehensively illuminate all aspects of the UBI and analyze its effects on society[2][3].

• Citizen Participation and Direct Democracy: We rely on direct democracy and initiate referendums and popular votes to actively involve the population in the process. By collecting signatures and engaging citizens, we create a binding mandate for political action[2][4].

Our main mission is to bring the concept of unconditional basic income into political and societal discussion and to promote its implementation. We strive to secure the existence of all citizens, enable social participation, and expand individual freedom. Our goal is to eliminate poverty and social distress and to sustainably improve the social and cultural situation in society[2][3].

• Existence Security and Participation: The basic income should be above the socio-cultural subsistence minimum and enable social participation. It is guaranteed without means testing and without coercion to work or other services[1][3].

• Social Justice and Innovation: By introducing a UBI, we aim to make Hamburg and other regions fairer, more innovative, healthier, and more straightforward. We promote the development opportunities of each individual and sustainably improve the social and cultural situation in the community[2].

• Scientific Accompaniment: Our model trials are scientifically accompanied to investigate the effects of the UBI on various aspects of society. This includes the analysis of financing models, such as the Negative Income Tax, and the evaluation of social and economic effects[3].
