About European Centre of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management
editThe European Centre of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management (CoE) is a member-based organization based in Berlin, founded in February 2020 at the invitation of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. The CoE is dedicated to strengthening the capabilities for civilian crisis management within the framework of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) of the European Union.
Key Products and Services
editThe CoE acts as a service provider for its 23 EU member states and the European External Action Service (EEAS), which is considered the CoE's preferred partner. It supports members in implementing their commitments under the Civil CSDP Pact by promoting the exchange of best practices and providing tailored advice and expert support. Additionally, the CoE operates a Knowledge Hub, which serves as a comprehensive resource collection for civilian crisis management and provides a variety of policy and research documents, analyses, and reports.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the CoE is to strengthen the civilian crisis management capacities of EU member states by facilitating cooperation and the exchange of best practices. The Centre supports its members in fulfilling the commitments of the Civil CSDP Pact to make civilian CSDP more capable, effective, and better connected. The values of the CoE are based on collaboration, knowledge transfer, and the promotion of innovations in the field of civilian crisis management.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe CoE is actively engaged in promoting sustainability goals, particularly in the area of climate and security. It organizes workshops and collaborates with international and regional organizations to advance the agenda for climate, peace, and security. These initiatives aim to strengthen capacities, improve operational responses, and solidify institutional partnerships in the field of climate security.
Relevant Partnerships
editIn addition to the EU member states, the CoE works closely with NATO and its international staff to ensure comprehensive civil-military cooperation. These partnerships are crucial for sustainably securing peace and security and enhancing the role of the EU as a global security provider.
The European Centre of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management is thus a central actor in the European security architecture, promoting the resilience and effectiveness of civilian crisis management in Europe and beyond through its work.
