About Esel-Initiative e. V.
editThe Esel-Initiative e. V. is a non-profit organization based in Berlin that is dedicated to supporting single mothers in remote regions of the world. Founded by Stefanie Christmann, the organization particularly focuses on improving the living conditions of mothers in Nepal, after the original project in Eritrea was discontinued in 2009. The main mission of the Esel-Initiative is to provide these women with a sustainable source of income by supplying them with livestock such as cows, water buffaloes, and donkeys, thus helping them escape poverty.
A central concern of the Esel-Initiative is the promotion of independence and economic self-sufficiency for women. By providing livestock purchased in the region, women gain the opportunity to produce and sell dairy products, which not only improves their financial situation but also secures the nutrition of their families. The initiative works closely with local mothers' organizations to ensure that support reaches those who need it most.
Sustainability is an essential component of the Esel-Initiative's work. In light of the challenges posed by climate change, which significantly complicates living conditions in the Himalayas, the organization focuses on ecological solutions. This includes promoting sustainable agricultural practices and training women to become stove builders for energy-efficient stoves. In the long term, the initiative plans to support projects aimed at stabilizing soils and sustainably utilizing medicinal plants to improve ecological conditions in the region.
The Esel-Initiative places great importance on transparency and efficiency in the use of funds. All donations are forwarded 100% to the project partners on-site, which is confirmed by the donation seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI). The organization consciously refrains from online donation portals to ensure data security and instead relies on direct transfers.
In addition to financial support through donations, the Esel-Initiative also offers other ways to get involved, such as membership in the organization or the distribution of informational materials. A photo traveling exhibition and children's books that address the work of the organization help raise awareness of the challenges and successes of the projects.
The Esel-Initiative e. V. is an inspiring example of the power of community and the potential to effect positive change in disadvantaged regions of the world through targeted support and sustainable approaches.
