CO:DINA - Transformation Roadmap Digitalization and Sustainability
editCO:DINA is an innovative project dedicated to the sustainable design of digital transformation. It is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMU) as part of the Environmental Policy Digital Agenda and is jointly conducted by IZT – Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment and the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, Energy.
Key Products or Services
editCO:DINA focuses on the development of a transformation roadmap that brings together action needs and options for sustainable digitalization. The research covers several key areas:
- System Design of Sustainable Digitalization: Here, business models, applications, data, and the role of actors are examined to understand and minimize the environmental impacts of digitalization[3][5].
- Digital Technologies: CO:DINA explores the potentials and challenges of emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) in the context of a Machine Economy[3][5].
Main Mission and Values
editThe main mission of CO:DINA is to strengthen political and societal action capacity for a socio-ecological-digital transformation. The project aims to identify and implement new strategic directions for a socio-ecological digitalization. It connects science, politics, civil society, and business to jointly develop sustainable solutions[2][5].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editCO:DINA has several key sustainability goals:
- Sustainable Digitalization: The project examines the interactions between technology, society, and the environment to enable a sustainable orientation of digitalization. It identifies influencing factors, success factors, and framework conditions that are crucial for the sustainable design of digitalization[2][5].
- Environmental Policy Digital Agenda: CO:DINA is part of the Environmental Policy Digital Agenda of the BMU and supports the scientific accompaniment and implementation of environmental policy strategies[5].
- Inter- and Transdisciplinary Approach: By involving relevant stakeholders and experts from various fields, previously overlooked interactions and interdependencies are addressed, opening new horizons for sustainable developments[5].
Current Developments
editThe CO:DINA project successfully concluded in November 2023 and published a comprehensive transformation report summarizing key insights and action options for a digital-ecological transformation agenda[4][5].
CO:DINA thus makes a significant contribution to the scientific, societal, and political debates on sustainable digitalization and paves the way for a future-proof and environmentally friendly digital transformation.
