elbēn

elbēn is a unique gastronomy and culture project in Münster that is dedicated to intercultural encounters and exchange. The name "elbēn" means "two hearts" in Syrian Arabic and reflects the mission to create a place where people from different cultures can come together and learn from each other. Founded in 2015, elbēn started as an initiative to enable refugees from Syria to establish a new existence in Germany. Today, it is an international team that offers Syrian street food with regional accents.

At the heart of elbēn's culinary offerings is Manakish, a traditional Arabic flatbread topped with a variety of ingredients and spices. In addition to Manakish, elbēn also offers other Levantine specialties such as Hummus, Baba Ganoush, and Tabuleh. These dishes are not only delicious but also serve as bridges between cultures. elbēn operates two bistros in Münster, at Aasee and Wolbecker Straße, as well as a mobile food truck that can also be booked for catering events.

The main mission of elbēn is to create a place of encounter where people from different backgrounds can come together. The organization is committed to peaceful coexistence and cultural exchange. The values of elbēn are based on openness, community, and the joy of experiencing and enjoying culture and gastronomy together.

elbēn is a purpose-driven project that does not primarily operate for profit. The profits generated are invested in promoting intercultural encounters and expanding cultural offerings. Since 2022, elbēn has been cooperating with artists in Lebanon to further promote cultural exchange. Additionally, elbēn is committed to the sustainable development of its offerings and relies on regional ingredients to minimize environmental impact.

In addition to gastronomy, elbēn also provides a platform for cultural events and creative projects. Regularly organized events and collaborations with artists contribute to strengthening intercultural dialogue. elbēn is also part of Workaway and Worldpackers, platforms that connect volunteers with hosts worldwide to promote cultural exchange.
