Elbarlament

elbarlament, which means "Parliament" in Arabic, is an organization that specializes in peace education and the promotion of democracy, with a particular focus on empowering women and youth. Founded in 2013, elbarlament began with a parliamentary support program in Egypt, which laid the foundation for the current organization.

elbarlament is convinced of the transformative power of culture and art as well as inclusive dialogues, especially in contexts of state fragility. The mission of the organization includes:

• The promotion of peaceful coexistence among all groups in society
• The strengthening of democratic norms and practices
• The support of dialogue between civil society and political decision-makers
• The increase of environmental awareness and the reduction of climate change-related conflicts

elbarlament offers a wide range of services divided into four thematic areas:

• Creative writing and film workshops
• Art and culture projects for peace education

• Civic education and leadership seminars
• Technical support for governments and parliaments
• Multi-stakeholder dialogues
• Conferences and panel discussions

• Research papers and policy documents on environmental and climate issues
• Projects to increase environmental awareness

• Support for women in conflict regions
• Research and consulting on gender issues

elbarlament pursues a conflict-sensitive and gender-transformative approach by supporting local reform agendas and combining art-based tools for peace education and civic education with traditional methods such as technical support. The organization is particularly committed to reducing climate change-related conflicts and promoting environmental awareness.

elbarlament operates under two separate legal identities: a GmbH and a non-profit association (e.V.). The general assembly of the members of the association is the highest body of the organization. The international and multilingual team is based in Berlin, Cologne, and Erbil (Iraq) and works closely with international partners, including parliamentarians, government officials, journalists, actors, writers, and filmmakers.
