Eisenbahn und Verkehrsgewerkschaft
The
Eisenbahn- und Verkehrsgewerkschaft (EVG)
editAbout the EVG
editThe Eisenbahn- und Verkehrsgewerkschaft (EVG) is the largest union of the railway and transport sector in Germany. Founded on November 30, 2010, through the merger of the unions Transnet and Verkehrsgewerkschaft GDBA, the EVG stands in the tradition of the Verband der Eisenbahner Deutschlands (VdED), which was established in 1896[1][2].
Members and Representation
editThe EVG represents over 185,000 members from various areas of the transport sector, including employees of Deutsche Bahn, private railways, the Bundeseisenbahnvermögen (BEV), the Eisenbahnbundesamt (EBA), and the Bundesamt für Güterverkehr (BAG). Additionally, employees of the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Knappschaft-Bahn-See (DRV KBS), BAHN-BKK, and DEVK are also organized in the EVG[1].
Mission and Values
editThe EVG politically advocates for rail transport and public local transport, as these are environmentally friendly, safe, and citizen-oriented, contributing to a high quality of life and economic strength in Germany. The union embodies the principle of community and achieves the best results through close cooperation with its members[2].
Organizational Structure
editThe EVG has a comprehensive organizational structure with 32 regional offices and numerous local associations, operational and service groups, as well as senior groups. The federal board is the central governing body that represents the union internally and externally. Specialized groups, such as the Lokfahrdienst group and the local transport group, strengthen the interests of specific member groups[1][4].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe EVG is actively engaged in environmentally friendly and sustainable transport solutions. It is a member of the European Transport Workers' Federation and the International Transport Workers' Federation and supports initiatives like the DigitalPakt Alter to promote digital participation for all members. The European Academy for Environmentally Friendly Transport (EVA), the educational and consulting company of the EVG, works in the areas of consulting, educational financing, and insurance services for members[1][3].
Current Activities and Collective Bargaining
editThe EVG is active in collective bargaining and advocates for better working conditions and higher wages for its members. Current negotiations and agreements, such as those with Deutsche Bahn and other transport companies, demonstrate the union's continuous commitment to the interests of its members. The EVG also organizes warning strikes and demonstrations to draw attention to the needs of its members[5].
Education and Health Care
editThe EVG offers comprehensive member services, including reliable insurance and effective health care. The union conducts seminars and workshops to strengthen the digital skills of its members and offers regular digital senior meetings to promote exchange and information among members[3].
The EVG is a strong and committed voice for workers in the transport sector, advocating for safe, environmentally friendly, and citizen-oriented transport solutions and defending the interests of its members at all levels.
