Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft
The
Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft: Leading Force in Cancer Control
editAbout Us
editThe Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft (DKG) is the leading scientific oncology professional society in Germany. As a non-profit association, the DKG brings together over 8,000 experts from various fields of oncology, including physicians, basic researchers, medical technical assistants, nursing staff, psychologists, and other professional groups involved in the research and treatment of cancer diseases[3].
Organization and Structure
editThe DKG is divided into three sections:
- Section A: Includes the 16 state cancer societies, which are independent associations in each federal state and perform regional work.
- Section B: Here, academics and members of non-academic professions who are active in research, treatment, and combating cancer diseases can become members. This section includes 25 working groups and eleven interdisciplinary working groups.
- Section C: Companies, corporations, and other organizations that wish to promote the association's purpose can become members here[2].
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the DKG is to ensure evidence-based and interdisciplinary care for cancer patients to guarantee high-quality treatment. The DKG advocates for the certification of oncology care centers, the development of independent guidelines for treatment, and the provision of information for patients based on current findings. Additionally, the DKG promotes professional exchange through numerous conferences and symposia and works closely with other associations, professional societies, and political bodies[1].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe DKG has been involved in the National Cancer Plan of the Federal Ministry of Health since 2008 and works intensively on its implementation. Since 2012, the DKG has cooperated on a project basis with the Deutsche Krebshilfe to strengthen the fight against cancer by bringing together expertise from various fields. As part of the "National Decade Against Cancer," an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the DKG plays an active role as co-chair in a working group to network research and care activities[1].
Funding and Transparency
editThe DKG is funded through membership fees, project-related grants, donations, and income from asset management. Annually, the DKG publishes a "Report to the Delegates Assembly," which provides an up-to-date overview of its activities[3].
The Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft is a central player in cancer control in Germany, making a significant contribution to improving the quality of life and chances of recovery for cancer patients through its comprehensive efforts in research, treatment, and patient care.
