The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Palliativmedizin e.V. (DGP) has been a scientific professional society for interdisciplinary and multiprofessional networking for over 25 years: More than 6,000 members from medicine, nursing, and other professional groups are committed to comprehensive palliative and hospice care in close collaboration with all stakeholders.
The common goal is to ensure significant relief of symptoms and improvement of quality of life in the context desired by those affected, regardless of the environment.
Palliative medicine is dedicated to the treatment and support of patients with an incurable, progressive, and advanced disease with limited life expectancy, as well as the support of their relatives. Palliative medicine affirms life and views dying as a natural process. It rejects active euthanasia.
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Palliativmedizin e.V. (DGP), founded in July 1994, has the task according to its statutes to unite doctors and other professional groups for joint work on the development and progress of palliative medicine and to promote the best possible care for patients in this field.
