BioMarkt: Leading Organic Specialty Retail in the German-speaking Area
editWho we are
editBioMarkt is a coalition of around 520 independent organic markets and Denns BioMärkte in Germany and Austria, operating under the common umbrella brand "BioMarkt". This initiative was established in 2020 as a further development of the Biomarkt cooperative group that has existed since 2008 and is supported by the dennree Group, one of the leading organic specialty retail companies in the German-speaking area[1][3][5].
Key Products and Services
editIn our organic markets, customers can find a comprehensive range of organic products for daily needs. This includes food, fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods from regional bakeries, a cheese counter, meat and sausage products, natural cosmetics, and an organic bistro. With over 6,000 products and a wide range of ecological drugstore products and natural cosmetics, we meet the diverse needs of our customers[2][3].
Main Mission and Values
editOur mission is to promote and spread the organic idea. We stand for reliability, community, and 100% organic quality. By purchasing organic products in our markets, our customers contribute to converting many hectares of land to organic farming and freeing them from chemical-synthetic pesticides. This supports the preservation of the climate, the environment, fellow creatures, resources, and biodiversity[3].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editBioMarkt is committed to various sustainability initiatives. We promote organic breeding and organic farming, advocate against the use of genetic engineering and agricultural chemicals, and support fair and transparent supply chains. With campaigns like "Round Up? Yes, please!" we collect donations for organic businesses affected by flooding and work with Too Good To Go against food waste. Additionally, we support the seed initiative "With United Gardens" and promote the cultivation of mildew-resistant lettuce plants[2][3].
Organization and Employees
editThe BioMarkt cooperative is organized democratically, with a five-member elected sales committee that decides on essential developments and issues in the natural food retail sector. The dennree Group, which stands behind BioMarkt, has over 7,700 employees and supplies more than 1,200 organic markets in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, and South Tyrol. The BioMarkt cooperative itself includes more than 2,000 additional employees[1][4][5].
History and Anniversary
editThe dennree Group was founded in 1974 by Thomas Greim and has since developed into one of the leading organic specialty retail companies in the German-speaking area. In 2023, we celebrate 50 years of BioMarkt and dennree, marking a social movement for sustainable agriculture and ecological products. We remain committed to the goal of "Organic for All" and work daily on our vision to create more space for organic farming and promote organic breeding[3][5].
