Founded in March 2020 during the "WirVsVirus" hackathon, codetekt has set itself the goal of curbing the spread of disinformation and strengthening the media and news literacy of the population.
Main mission and values
editThe main mission of Codetekt is to give everyone the opportunity to quickly and easily assess the credibility of online articles and news, this is achieved through the so-called TrustCheck approach, which is based on a combination of criteria that objectively evaluate the credibility of information.

- Trust-Checking-Kit: This teaching material is aimed at teachers and multipliers and is intended to strengthen the media and news competence of students. The kit is available free of charge throughout Germany and is used in cooperation projects such as "Factenstark" (together with the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and the Bertelsmann Foundation) [4][5].
- Workshops and educational offers: codetekt offers workshops for students, companies and organizations to strengthen news literacy and communicate strategies against disinformation. These workshops are part of the comprehensive educational work, which also includes digital tools and regular monitoring.
- Digital tools and cooperation projects: codetekt develops and offers digital tools such as the chatbot "Klaro", which helps in dealing with disinformation. The project "Factenstark" is an outstanding example of cooperation with other foundations and organizations to make citizens fit for dealing with disinformation.[4][5]

Values and working methods
editcodetekt is based on four central values: the promotion of media and news literacy, the strengthening of a well-informed society, the resilience of democracy and community work. The team operates decentrally and virtually, which makes it possible to work flexibly and effectively. The organization is run on a voluntary basis and is supported by funding partners.
