editClimate Action Network (CAN) Europe is the leading NGO coalition in Europe dedicated to combating dangerous climate change. As part of the global network of Climate Action Network International, which includes over 1,700 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in more than 130 countries, CAN Europe works to promote sustainable climate, energy, and development policies across Europe.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of CAN Europe is to ensure the protection of the atmosphere while promoting sustainable and equitable development at a global level. This is based on the principle of the Brundtland Commission that the needs of the present must be met in a way that does not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Key Activities and Services
edit- Coordinated Actions and Strategy Development: CAN Europe brings together over 200 member organizations from 40 European countries to promote joint actions, information exchange, and the coordinated development of NGO strategies at international, regional, and national levels.
- Policy Advocacy: The network works to influence policymakers to ensure a healthy environment and sustainable development.
- Information Dissemination: CAN Europe regularly publishes reports and information to inform and raise awareness among the public and policymakers about climate issues.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

- Social and Racial Justice: CAN Europe emphasizes the importance of social and racial justice in combating climate change and advocates for a fair distribution of burdens and benefits.
Acknowledgments and Initiatives
edit- Fossil of the Day and Bright Spot of the Day: As part of Climate Action Network International, CAN Europe awards the negative prize "Fossil of the Day" to countries that stand out for particularly poor climate protection or destructive behavior during international climate negotiations. In contrast, the "Bright Spot of the Day" is awarded to countries that make positive contributions to climate protection.
Through its comprehensive efforts and close collaboration with NGOs, policymakers, and the public, CAN Europe plays a central role in promoting a sustainable and climate-friendly future in Europe and worldwide.
