The
Claussen-Simon-Stiftung
editAbout the Foundation
editThe Claussen-Simon-Stiftung, founded in 1981 by Georg Wilhelm Claussen, the former chairman of the supervisory board and CEO of Beiersdorf AG, is based in Hamburg. The foundation was established on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Beiersdorf AG and received further support through a testamentary disposition from Ebba Simon in 1999.
Key Products and Services
editThe Claussen-Simon-Stiftung focuses on promoting talented young people at various stages of their development. The foundation offers a variety of scholarship programs and project funding in three main areas of support:
- Science & Higher Education: Here, students, doctoral candidates, and post-docs at Hamburg universities are supported. Programs such as the B-MINT scholarship, the Dissertation Plus scholarship, the Master Plus scholarship, and the Post-Doc Plus program are part of this funding[2][3].
- Education & School: This funding includes scholarships for teacher training students with a migration background (Horizonte scholarship) and projects that support schools and extracurricular education providers in Hamburg. The "What Matters!" fund for teaching and learning is another important project that particularly supports schools and disadvantaged youth during the Corona pandemic[1][4].
- Art & Culture: This includes support for the State Youth Music School Hamburg to promote young artists[3].
Mission and Values
editThe mission of the Claussen-Simon-Stiftung is to support talented young people in their educational, academic, professional, and personal development phases. The foundation focuses on individual support and accompanies the scholarship holders sustainably and accessibly. Trust in the power of the individual and collaboration are at the heart of the foundation's work. The values of the foundation include courage, trust, and collaboration[5].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe Claussen-Simon-Stiftung is engaged in various sustainable initiatives:
- Promotion of Diversity and Inclusion: The Horizonte scholarship promotes teacher training students with a migration background and supports the development of a diversity-sensitive and discrimination-critical perspective in educational institutions[4].
- Support in Crisis Times: The "What Matters!" fund for teaching and learning was established particularly in the context of the Corona pandemic to support schools and extracurricular education providers with the new challenges[1].
- Long-term Support: The foundation offers not only financial but also conceptual support through seminars, coaching, lectures, and networking events to enable comprehensive development of the scholarship holders[2][3].
The Claussen-Simon-Stiftung works closely with other foundations and partners to achieve its goals more effectively. The involvement of the Hans Weisser Stiftung in the "What Matters!" fund is an example of these cooperative efforts[1].
Through its extensive funding programs and initiatives, the Claussen-Simon-Stiftung significantly contributes to the development and success of young people in Hamburg and advocates for a better and fairer educational society.
