(CCC), founded in 1981, is one of the oldest and most influential civil society organizations in the German-speaking world, dealing with the security and privacy aspects of technology. With around 5,500 members, the CCC is organized as a non-profit association and operates decentralized in 25 regional hackerspaces, the so-called "Erfakreisen," as well as numerous smaller "Chaostreffs."
