Changing Cities

Changing Cities e.V. is a politically independent organization that advocates for sustainable mobility and livable cities through creative actions and committed campaigns. Founded on the basis of the successful Berlin referendum on cycling in 2015, the association has developed into a broad movement that promotes civic engagement and influences political discourse.

Our mission is to raise awareness of issues, promote the will for change, and support civic engagement. We strive for a city that is open, safe, and healthy for everyone – a city where everyone, whether child or senior, can travel safely, quickly, and barrier-free on foot or by bicycle. Our values are based on promoting an inclusive and diverse community that is committed to improving the quality of urban life[2][3].

• Campaigns and Projects: We initiate and support local and nationwide projects aimed at sustainable mobility and livable cities. An example of this is the Berlin referendum on cycling, which has led to investments of 600 million euros in cycling infrastructure by 2030[2].
• Networking and Exchange: We connect local initiatives and experts to promote the exchange of knowledge and resources and to maximize the impact of these initiatives. The platform fahrrad-initiativen.de serves as a central networking platform for cycling initiatives in Germany[3].
• Civic Participation: We run a city workshop where new ideas are developed, teams are formed, and campaigns are launched. This provides citizens with the opportunity to actively participate in shaping their city[2].

• Mobility Transition: We advocate for a comprehensive mobility transition that promotes safer and more sustainable modes of transport. This includes supporting cycling, walking, and other environmentally friendly forms of mobility[2][3].
• Vision Zero: We support initiatives aimed at Vision Zero – a vision where no road users are killed or seriously injured in traffic. This includes vigils and demands for safer streets[3].
• Diversity and Inclusion: We strive for a more diverse and inclusive community by inviting people from various backgrounds, especially those with experiences of discrimination, to contribute and share their perspectives[1].

Changing Cities e.V. is supported by a broad base of sponsoring members, regular members, and volunteers.
