C40 Cities

C40 is a global network that unites nearly 100 mayors of the world's leading cities to work together against the climate crisis and create a future where everyone, everywhere, can thrive.

The mayors of C40 cities are determined to use a science-based and people-centered approach to limit global warming to 1.5°C and build healthy, just, and resilient communities. C40 is uncompromising in its commitment to justice, diversity, and inclusion, both in recruiting and developing its international workforce and in collaborating with member cities worldwide[2].

• Climate Action Plans and Innovation: C40 supports member cities in developing tailored climate action plans that align with the goals of the Paris Agreement. This includes promoting innovations and implementing measures that go beyond the direct control of city governments[1][3].
• Knowledge Hub: The C40 Knowledge Hub provides urban practitioners and policymakers with practical information and tools to advance climate action in their cities. It features research, case studies, and best practices that are easily accessible and understandable[4].
• Financing and Infrastructure: The C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) helps cities prepare bankable infrastructure projects for climate action and find suitable financing solutions. This includes projects in the areas of water, energy, and transportation[5].

• Climate Protection and Emission Reduction: C40 aims to halve the emissions of member cities by 2030 and limit global warming to 1.5°C. This is achieved through the implementation of climate action plans, the promotion of green jobs, and the decarbonization of buildings, transport, and waste systems[1][3].
• Justice, Diversity, and Inclusion: C40 has developed a comprehensive strategy and action plan for justice, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) to create a workforce that reflects the diverse communities of global cities. C40 is led by a strong leadership team, consisting of Chair, Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, and Board Chair, three-time Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg.
