editAbout Us
editThe Bundesverband Netzwerke von Migrantinnenorganisationen e.V. (NeMO) is a comprehensive association of over 800 migrant organizations that are active in 21 origin and culture-crossing local networks in 10 federal states. Founded in 2015 by nine local umbrella organizations and networks, NeMO aims to represent the interests of local networks of migrant organizations at the federal level and to ensure more participation and inclusion of migrant perspectives[2][3].
Mission and Values
editNeMO's mission is to emphatically bring the local experiences of lack of participation to federal politics and to the relevant ministries and institutions and to push for remedies. The association advocates for good and supportive framework conditions for the work of local networks and promotes the exchange of experiences and know-how between the networks. Another central task is to promote the establishment of further networks at the local level to achieve comprehensive presence[2][3].
Services and Activities
editNeMO offers its members a platform for exchange and nationwide networking as well as the further development of their competencies. The association organizes regular member meetings and internal exchange forums to define programmatic topics and joint measures. In addition, NeMO offers individually tailored training and further education for the local networks to support their work in the municipalities[1][3].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editSince 2020, NeMO has been actively working on sharpening its immigration and participation policy profile. The association has established thematic priorities and works closely with the municipal alliance "Cities of Safe Harbors" to successfully implement important projects. NeMO receives structural funding from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community and advocates for anti-racism and participation[1][5].
Cultural and Educational Initiatives
editAn important aspect of NeMO's work is the promotion of extracurricular intercultural educational projects. Under the title "InterKulturMachtKunst – KunstMachtInterKultur," NeMO initiates alliances for education that artistically engage with diversity and reflect the diversity of people in their cultures, languages, and origins. These projects are particularly aimed at children and young people with limited access to cultural education, especially those with a migration background and refugees[4].
Conclusion
editThe Bundesverband NeMO is a central actor in promoting participation, integration, and anti-racism in Germany. Through its grassroots democratic structure, its comprehensive networks, and its diverse initiatives, NeMO makes an important contribution to shaping an inclusive and diverse immigration society.
