editAbout the Company
editThe Bundesstiftung Bauakademie is a non-profit foundation established in 2019 to initiate the transformation in the construction industry and urban development towards sustainable value creation. It has its roots in the historical Bauakademie, which was founded in 1799 in Berlin as a state educational institution for architects and civil engineers and was known for the iconic building by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, which was demolished in 1962.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the Bundesstiftung Bauakademie is to organize the construction of a forward-looking building and to develop a comprehensive education and mediation program. It serves as a forum for innovative construction and sustainable urban development by promoting dialogue between the construction industry, science, politics, and the public. The foundation is committed to interdisciplinary research and the communication of future-oriented topics that will shape construction in the 21st century.
Key Products and Services
edit- Focus Areas: The foundation focuses on eight key areas: Future Research, Digitalization, Innovation, Sustainability, Climate Change, Circular Economy, Urban Development, and Housing. These topics are addressed by think tanks and working groups consisting of representatives from science and practice.
- Research and Mediation: The scientific team of the Bauakademie prepares research results for practice and makes them available to the public through a virtual platform as well as through hybrid expert discussions and events.
- Education and Enthusiasm: An important aspect is the promotion of children and young people through the "Young Bauakademie" to inspire them for the construction of the future.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
edit- Sustainability: The foundation emphasizes the ecologically responsible use of natural resources and strives to make construction sustainable in all areas.
- Climate Change: A central goal is the adaptation of buildings and cities to climate change and the reduction of climate-damaging emissions.
- Circular Economy: Promoting a circular economy that channels all waste back into value creation is another focus. This aims to lead to "circular cities" that are resource-efficient and livable.
- Urban Development: The foundation is committed to ecologically and socially responsible urban development, as more than half of humanity lives in cities.
Current Developments
editThe Bundesstiftung Bauakademie is currently working on the construction of a new building at Schinkelplatz in Berlin, which is intended to serve as a central platform for dialogue and mediation. Before the building opens, a virtual platform has already been established to facilitate exchange among stakeholders and to present the foundation's projects to the public.
Thus, the Bundesstiftung Bauakademie is a central player in the field of sustainable and innovative construction and urban development, paving the way for a future-oriented building culture through interdisciplinary research, education, and dialogue.
