Federal Association of German Showmen and Market Traders e.V. (BSM)
editAbout the BSM
editThe Federal Association of German Showmen and Market Traders e.V. (BSM) is the largest German interest representation for market traders, showmen, and circus companies. Founded in 1952 as the main association of the mobile trade and showmen in Germany e.V. (HAGD), the association was renamed BSM in 1993.
Structure and Organization
editThe BSM is divided into 11 state associations, which in turn include local, district, or regional offices. At the top of the overall association is a three-member presidency, currently led by President Wilfried Thal and Vice Presidents Wenzel Bradac, Andreas Pfeifer, and Patrick Arens. The board consists of the presidency, the presidents of the state associations, the chairpersons of the specialist areas, and the federal treasurer.
Specialist Areas
editThe BSM is divided into four main specialist areas:
- Showmen and Circus
- General Market Trade
- Weekly Market Trade
- Promotional Sales
These specialist areas represent the various sectors of the mobile trade and address specific technical issues and resolutions.
Main Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the BSM is to support and represent the interests of its members. The association promotes the professional development of its members, informs about new legal and regulatory developments, and politically represents the mobile trade in Germany and the EU. The BSM works closely with other top associations and organizations, such as the European Association of Showmen and the German Tourism Association.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editAlthough the BSM is primarily focused on representing traditional trades, sustainability plays an important role in the context of the general support and promotion of its members. The association supports measures that contribute to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of folk festivals and works to assist members in adapting to modern and sustainable business practices.
Regional Institutions
editIn addition to the state associations and specialist areas, there is the Trade and Legal Committee and the main management. The Trade and Legal Committee serves as a platform for regular meetings of the presidency and knowledgeable colleagues from all sectors to generate important resolutions and impulses. The main management acts as a central point of contact and liaison to ministries, authorities, and other important bodies.
Federal Association Day
editEvery two years, the Federal Association Day convenes, at which each state association sends delegates. On this day, the members of the presidency are also elected.
The BSM is a central player in the mobile trade and circus industry in Germany, advocating for the interests of its members and contributing to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of folk festivals.
