Borderstep Institut

The Borderstep Institut is an independent and non-profit research institution that focuses on application-oriented innovation and entrepreneurship in the context of sustainability.

Borderstep is dedicated to the vision of sustainable development and strives for a fundamental global transformation towards a green and sustainable economy through excellent interdisciplinary research. The mission of the institute is to generate new knowledge through problem-oriented research that aims to initiate global changes. Borderstep sees itself as a pioneer in the scientific community and aims to transform business processes and lifestyles towards a green economy through outstanding research.

• Sustainability Innovations: Borderstep researches how sustainability innovations can emerge, be successfully implemented, and disseminated.
• Green Economy: The institute focuses on the vision of the Green Economy, which aims to combine prosperity, ecological sustainability, and social justice. It targets a low-emission, climate-neutral, and resource-efficient (circular) economy.
• Climate Change: Borderstep examines the role of economic actors and their innovations for climate protection and analyzes the economic opportunities of climate adaptation.
• Smart Energy: The institute researches decentralized and renewable energy supply systems as well as increasing energy efficiency to support the energy transition.
• Sustainable Business Models: In cooperation with the ESCP Business School Berlin, Borderstep develops new forms of value creation and redesigns the underlying business models to promote a future-proof economy.
• Digitalization and GreenIT: Borderstep investigates the resource-efficient use of digital products and services to improve sustainability in the IT sector.

Borderstep focuses on concepts that connect economic success with ecological and social sustainability. Key areas include:

• Climate Protection: The institute works on solutions that address climate change through innovations and economic adjustments.
