About BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme GmbH
editBEW Berliner Energie und Wärme GmbH, which has been 100% owned by the State of Berlin since May 2024, is actively shaping the energy transition of the capital. The company reliably supplies around 700,000 apartments and approximately 8,000 other buildings with climate-friendly district heating. In addition, BEW offers locally produced district cooling as well as individual, decentralized energy solutions.
The goal of BEW is the decarbonization of Berlin. The phase-out of coal use is to be completed by 2030, and the entire heat supply of the city is to be climate-neutral by 2045. A clearly defined decarbonization roadmap with concrete measures points the way to this ambitious goal.
BEW's expertise includes the generation of heat, cooling and electricity as well as the transformation of the generation park towards a climate-neutral supply. The company is responsible for the sale and distribution of district heating, district cooling and individual, decentralized solutions for business customers.
With over 2,000 kilometers in length, BEW operates the largest district heating network in Western Europe. Combined heat and power (CHP) in the heating plants achieves a high level of efficiency and fuels are used optimally. Innovative technologies such as one of the largest Power-to-Heat plants in Europe, which generates district heating from renewable electricity, and large-scale heat storage contribute to climate neutrality. The increasing use of waste heat from various sources is another important building block for reducing CO2 emissions.
BEW offers a wide range of career and training opportunities and promotes diversity and inclusion in the company.
