Berliner Schulpate

Berliner Schulpate is a non-profit GmbH with the central goal of introducing elementary school children to the diversity of various professions at an early stage. Founded on the initiative of the Berlin crafts sector, the company focuses on supporting children in grades 4 to 6 in developing their career aspirations.

As part of the comprehensive program "Adventure Profession," students learn about various professions in a playful and practical way through so-called career mentors. Since its founding in 2012, over 500 companies, businesses, and freelancers have engaged as career mentors to provide elementary school children in currently 30 schools with insights into their professions. On average, over 6,000 students experience these unique career experiences each year[2].

A central aspect of the work of Berliner Schulpate is the creation of career role models, especially in schools where many children lack career role models in their daily lives. Through collaboration with businesses, companies, and volunteers, Berliner Schulpate enables children to develop an early awareness that work and professions can be enjoyable and that there are many different professions related to their individual interests[2].

Berliner Schulpate advocates for social fairness, where every person can participate equally and self-determinedly. The company promotes inclusion and equality regardless of appearance, language, or physical limitations. By getting to know professions early on, children are provided with a good foundation for their further professional development, which contributes to better career choices and stronger integration into the workforce in the long term[5].

Berliner Schulpate is a subsidiary of the Berlin Chamber of Crafts and is supported by various prominent partners, including Berliner Volksbank eG, GASAG AG, the Senate Department for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs, the Stockhausen Foundation, and WALL GmbH. This support enables the company to carry out its program comprehensively and effectively[2].

Engagement with Berliner Schulpate is diverse and easy to arrange. Career mentors can participate through career hours in schools or through company visits in their businesses. The company invites all interested parties to engage socially and support children on their career paths. Donations of goods or money are also welcome to enrich project implementation and school life[2][4].
