Berlin Global Village
The
Berlin Global Village: A Center for Global Justice and Sustainability
editAbout Us
editThe Berlin Global Village is the One World Center in Berlin, which has served as a central place for encounters, cooperation, and global learning since March 2021. Around 50 development policy and migrant-diasporic NGOs work together here to promote social change and global justice[1][2][3].
Key Products and Services
edit- Event Spaces: Modern, well-equipped rooms for conferences, seminars, planning meetings, readings, panel discussions, and film screenings are available. These rooms can also be booked for private celebrations and events by organizations and initiatives that are not based in the center[1][2][3].
- Art and Culture: The center initiates cultural and artistic projects, such as the open, global art competition for a decolonial memorial. From November 2024, the artwork "EarthNest" by The Lockward Collective will be publicly accessible in front of the center[1][2].
- Digitalization: The Berlin Global Village acts as a hub for digitalization issues from a global perspective. The Digital Hub Conference, taking place on September 30, 2024, brings together representatives and thought leaders from various sectors to view digitalization from a global justice perspective[1][2].
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the Berlin Global Village is to promote fair and sustainable global development. The center is committed to ensuring that people worldwide have the freedom to shape their lives independently and responsibly, without material need or oppression. It stands for a society in which every person can participate equally and self-determined, regardless of appearance, language, or physical limitations. Racism and discrimination in all their forms are actively rejected and fought against[2][4].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe Berlin Global Village pursues several sustainability goals:
- Global Justice: The center works on strategies for globally just development and promotes collaboration between various organizations and initiatives.
- Diversity and Inclusion: It strives for a power-critical, discrimination-sensitive, and diversity-oriented approach to create an inclusive and discrimination-free space.
- Cultural Exchange: Through cultural and artistic projects, dialogue and exchange between different cultures and communities are promoted.
- Digitalization: The initiative focuses on digitalization from a global justice perspective to develop innovative solutions for global challenges[1][2][4].
The Berlin Global Village is more than the sum of its individual organizations and groups; it thrives on their commitment and work and offers a unique place for encounters, open dialogues, and social change in Berlin.
