Architects 4 Future: A Call for a Sustainable Construction Transition

    Who we are

Architects 4 Future is a non-profit and volunteer initiative that expresses solidarity with the Fridays 4 Future movement and advocates for the adherence to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement as well as the limitation of global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C. Our members come from various specialization areas of the construction industry and work together internationally, non-partisan, autonomously, and democratically[2].

    Our Mission and Values

Our main mission is to drive a sustainable change in the construction sector. We are committed to transforming the construction industry to make it climate-, environmentally-, and socially just. This includes revising needs, questioning demolitions, and focusing on a regenerative economy that decouples prosperity from resource consumption[1].

    Key Products and Services

    • Public Relations: We communicate our demands and initiatives through various media, events, and collaborative work with organizations and institutions. This includes discourse and communication within and outside the construction industry to raise awareness of deficits and potentials for change[2].
    • Network: Architects 4 Future provides a platform to connect with people from various specialization areas across Germany. We bring together other organizations and actors to collaboratively develop solutions for the construction transition[2].
    • Knowledge: We highlight the relevance and potential of the construction industry and question outdated standards. We support society, universities, and professionals in the construction sector in developing new, sustainable pathways and building a knowledge base for sustainable planning[2].

    Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

The construction sector is responsible for about 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions, 55% of waste generation, and 50% of resource consumption. To reduce these figures, we have formulated ten demands for a holistic construction transition and a newly defined construction culture. These demands address essential issues in the building sector and highlight areas for action for a sustainably built environment[1].

    • Construction Transition: Our demands aim to change the construction industry so that it contributes to climate protection and remains within planetary boundaries. This includes reducing resource consumption, minimizing waste, and promoting regenerative practices[1].
    • Petitions and Crowdfunding: We have successfully conducted petitions in the Bundestag and launched crowdfunding campaigns to support our work and establish full-time structures[2].

    Get Involved and Support

We invite all construction stakeholders, politics, educational institutions, and society as a whole to actively participate in our initiative. Together, we can drive the necessary change in the construction industry and create a future-proof, sustainable construction culture. Our work is based on the collective knowledge of our community and is continuously updated by new scientific findings and needs for action[1].
