editAbout Alnatura
editAlnatura, founded in 1984, is a working group of over 3,500 employees who are dedicated to ensuring that more food from organic farming makes its way from organic farms to customers every day. Since its founding, the company has stood for the guiding principle "Meaningful for People and the Earth".
Key Products and Services
editAlnatura offers a comprehensive range of over 6,000 organic products, including organic food, natural cosmetics, and organic textiles. The portfolio includes products such as baby and toddler food, bread, spreads, cereals and cereal products, snacks, milk and milk alternatives, mueslis, juices, pasta, and frozen foods. All raw materials come 100% from organic farming, preferably from Bioland, Demeter, and Naturland[5].
Mission and Values
editPeople are at the center of Alnatura. The company's actions are guided by the principles of Holism, Customer Orientation, and Self-Responsibility. These values shape the attention to customers and the collaboration among employees. Alnatura promotes the development of all employees towards self-responsible action and enables learning from and with each other[2].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editAlnatura is a pioneer in sustainability and is committed to the promotion and development of organic farming in Germany. The company operates its own organic supermarkets and is involved in numerous sustainable initiatives:
- Alnatura Organic Farmers Initiative (ABBI): Financial support for farmers transitioning to organic farming.
- Alnatura Pasture Milk Initiative: Guarantees that dairy cows are on pasture for at least 120 days a year for six hours each day from spring to autumn.
- Support for the Seed Fund and the Mellifera e.V. bee association.
- Charitable projects at market openings and children's aid projects in cooperation with Terre des Hommes.
- Sustainable Store Design: Shelves made from local wood, natural stone tiles, and recycled materials[5].
Sustainable Infrastructure
editThe Alnatura distribution center in Lorsch, one of the largest wooden high-bay warehouses in the world, is an example of the company's ecological building concept. It features a facade made of local, certified larch wood, a photovoltaic system, an air-water heat pump, and a geothermal system[5].
Awards and Commitment
editAlnatura has received numerous awards, including the Sustainable Impact Award 2024 in the category "Impact of Corporate Sustainable Governance" and the German Sustainability Award 2011 as the "Most Sustainable Company". The company is also known for its innovative working environment, such as the move to the Alnatura Campus, Europe's largest office building made of clay, which has been awarded the DGNB certificate in platinum[1][5].
With these initiatives and values, Alnatura continuously works to create sustainable value creation and promote meaningful action for people and the earth.
