Allea

ALLEA, the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, is a comprehensive network that unites nearly 60 academies from about 40 EU and non-EU countries.

ALLEA is dedicated to promoting science and the humanities in Europe and worldwide. The main mission of ALLEA is to strengthen collaboration and exchange among the leading academies in Europe to promote scientific excellence, interdisciplinary research, and the application of scientific knowledge in society. ALLEA stands for values such as intellectual excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the responsibility to use scientific knowledge for the common good[3][4].

ALLEA provides administrative and organizational support for its member academies, the Board, the Presidency, and various expert groups. The secretariat, based in Berlin, coordinates the operational and communication activities of ALLEA and serves as a central point of contact for member academies and external inquiries. In addition, ALLEA operates a project office in Brussels and a liaison office in Warsaw to intensify European and international collaboration[1].

ALLEA is actively engaged in issues of sustainability and research ethics. One example is the support and promotion of measures for climate neutrality. ALLEA has, for instance, taken a stance on climate sustainability and research integrity and contributes to international discussions on the implementation of sustainability goals. Furthermore, ALLEA has published the "European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity," which supports researchers and institutions in adhering to ethical standards[4].

ALLEA regularly publishes reports and publications on various scientific and societal topics. These include strategy papers, research reports, and statements on current science policy issues. Additionally, ALLEA organizes conferences, workshops, and other events to promote dialogue between scientists, politicians, and the public[3][4].
