Aktion Mensch: Promotion of Inclusion and Social Participation
editAbout Us
editAktion Mensch is the largest private funding organization in the social sector in Germany, founded in 1964 on the initiative of the Second German Television (ZDF). The headquarters of the non-profit association is located in Bonn, with an office in Mainz.
Mission and Values
editOur main goal is to promote inclusion and improve the living conditions of people with disabilities, children, and adolescents. We advocate for a natural coexistence of people with and without disabilities in all areas of life. This includes creating a barrier-free society where diversity is taken for granted and all people have the opportunity to live independently and showcase their abilities[1][4][5].
Key Products and Services
edit- Social Lottery: With the proceeds from our social lottery, in which over 4.6 million people regularly participate, we support up to 1,000 social projects every month. Since our founding, we have allocated over 5 billion euros to social projects[1][3][5].
- Funding: We fund projects that focus on improving the living conditions of people with disabilities, children, and adolescents. This includes inclusive summer festivals, playgroups with children with and without disabilities, and the barrier-free conversion of sports fields[4].
- Awareness and Education: Through actions, campaigns, educational materials, and films, we inform the public about the importance of inclusion and show what a society can look like where differences are normal. Examples include our campaigns like "Places for All" and "Inclusion from the Start"[1][3][4].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
edit- Barrier-Free Mobility: We advocate for barrier-free mobility in public transport to ensure that all people can participate regardless of their abilities[5].
- Inclusive Sports: Together with the German Disabled Sports Association e.V. and the REWE Group, we promote inclusive sports to inspire children and adolescents for barrier-free sports offerings[5].
- Digital Inclusion: We are working on the development of AI technologies that assess the inclusion of people with disabilities and uncover potential discrimination in language models[5].
- Social Participation: Through our initiatives and events, such as the congress "Shaping Change. Municipalities Become Inclusive.", we promote social cohesion and democracy through inclusion[5].
Commitment and Community
editWe offer a variety of opportunities for volunteer engagement and exchange. Our engagement platform helps find suitable volunteer activities. Additionally, we provide comprehensive information, advice, and contacts for people with disabilities and their relatives[2].
Aktion Mensch is more than just a funding organization – it is a driving force for change aimed at promoting a societal culture of inclusion and natural coexistence. Through our work and the support of our lottery participants, we are working together to create a barrier-free and diverse society.
