AKS Gemeinwohl: A Platform for Common Good-Oriented Urban Development
editWhat We Do
editAKS Gemeinwohl is a consulting and mediation center that is committed to common good-oriented urban development in the heart of the Berlin district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Our work serves as an interface between local administration, civil society, and politics. We support projects and spaces that are dedicated to the common good and promote sustainable land policies to ensure a diverse and vibrant urban society.
Mission and Values
editOur main mission is to support preventive acquisitions by common good-oriented real estate companies to reduce the pressure of exploitation on properties and protect tenants from displacement. We bring together people from local administration, politics, and civil society to promote public dialogues on cooperative and common good-oriented urban development. Our focus is on coordinating urban political initiatives, common good-oriented real estate development and management, as well as citizen participation and communication with the administration.
Key Products and Services
edit- Consulting and Mediation: We advise owners and tenants on options for the common good-oriented sale of properties and facilitate contacts with relevant companies.
- Citizen Participation: We promote citizen involvement through events and working groups to ensure that the needs and interests of the local community are taken into account.
- Networking: We connect civil society actors and administrative structures to develop cooperative solutions for urban development issues.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
edit- Long-Term Solutions: We work on developing long-term, conceptual solutions for urban problems to ensure sustainable and social urban development.
- Common Good Criteria: We have developed common good criteria that serve as a guideline for decisions regarding the development of municipal properties.
- Displacement Protection: Through our work, we aim to reduce pressure on properties and protect tenants from displacement by promoting alternative, common good-oriented models of real estate development.
Supporting Association and Structure
editAKS Gemeinwohl is supported by the civil society association GemeinwohlStadt e.V., which was founded in 2019. The association receives funding from local administration, which ensures the financing of the AKS team members and additional costs. The board of the association consists of Sabrina Herrmann, Roberta Burghard, and Immo Janssen. A steering committee, consisting of local politicians, administrative staff, and civil society organizations, accompanies and supports the work of AKS Gemeinwohl[1][2][5].
Through our flexible and adaptable structures and our close collaboration with various actors, we contribute to fostering a vibrant and solidarity-based urban society in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.
