Agora Agrar is an independent think tank based in Berlin that is dedicated to developing scientifically sound and politically feasible concepts for sustainable and future-oriented nutrition, agriculture, and forestry. The mission of Agora Agrar is to contribute to achieving democratically negotiated sustainability goals and to support future societal negotiation processes for transformation. The think tank operates politically independent and is funded by private foundations such as the Robert Bosch Foundation, Porticus, the European Climate Foundation, and the Michael Otto Foundation for the Environment. The work of Agora Agrar is based on the values of transparency, scientific integrity, and the promotion of a holistic approach to solving the climate and biodiversity crisis.

Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

Agora Agrar actively advocates for climate neutrality and the protection of biodiversity. A central initiative is the development of scenarios for the land use sectors as part of the food system and bioeconomy in a climate-neutral EU by mid-century. The think tank promotes the rewetting of peatlands and the use of paludiculture biomass in the construction sector as climate-neutral building materials. These initiatives aim to open up new sources of income and increase societal appreciation of agriculture and forestry.

Collaboration and Team

Agora Agrar is led by agricultural experts Christine Chemnitz and Harald Grethe, who are building an interdisciplinary team of experts. The organization works closely with other Agora think tanks such as Agora Energiewende, Agora Verkehrswende, and Agora Industrie to identify and address synergies and conflicts of interest in future land use.
