    AfroPolitan Berlin: an intersectionally oriented transcultural black community project

    AfroPolitan Berlin is a cross-cultural, intersectionally oriented Black community project based in Berlin-Kreuzberg, founded in 2016, whose main goal is to strengthen and empower Black people, people of the Afrodaspora and their communities.

    AfroPolitan Berlin offers a diverse range of programmes and activities aimed at creating spaces for development, exploration and development.

    • Weekly programmes: workshops, seminars, discussion groups, cultural and community events and resource and history mediation.
    • Long-term programmes: workshop and mentoring programmes designed by black and Afro-Diasporic experts.
    • Community events: regular and punctual events that allow members of the Black Diaspora to experience themselves, continue their education, learn together and network.

    Main mission and values

    The mission of AfroPolitan Berlin is based on the principles of identity, creation and community.The project aims to create spaces where black and Afro-dissident people can explore their identity, continue their education and learn together.It promotes self-awareness, participation, action and impact in everyday life and in the social context.

    Sustainability goals and initiatives

    AfroPolitan Berlin is supported by various grants and initiatives:

    • Funding from the Senate Administration: The project is funded by the Senate Administration for Labour, Social Affairs, Equality, Integration, Diversity and Anti-Discrimination and the Senate Administration for Culture and Social Cohesion.
    • European Union: Additional funding comes from the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
    • Community donations: The work is also supported by donations from the community, Accomplices and Allies[4][5].

    Through these grants and initiatives, AfroPolitan Berlin can continue and develop its work to empower and support hundreds of young black people every year.
