The Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn (Germany), has openings for:
3 Doctoral Researchers in Agricultural/ Development Economics
to become part of the project “Dynamics of agricultural innovation in Vietnam” funded by the CGIAR Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA) and conducted in cooperation with the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). The research involves empirical analysis of agricultural technology adoption and impacts using survey and remote sensing data.
The doctoral researchers will get a stipend contract for a period of three years, will be inte-grated into ZEF’s Doctoral Program (BIGS-DR) and will work towards their doctoral degree at the University of Bonn. They will be supervised by Prof. Matin Qaim, Prof. David Wuepper, and VNUA colleagues. The starting date should be as soon as possible.
Your tasks:
• Contribute to compiling quantitative household survey data (VHLSS, TVSEP), remote sensing data (satellite imageries), and qualitative stakeholder interviews in Vietnam
• Cooperate with partners (VNUA, CGIAR, national policymakers, etc.)
• Conduct econometric analysis of the adoption of various agricultural innovations and their impacts on productivity, income, poverty, water use, GHG emissions, etc.
• Prepare, publish, and present research reports and articles in international journals
Your profile:
• Master’s degree (completed or near to completion) in agricultural/development eco-nomics or related fields
• Experience with quantitative research methods and related statistical packages
• Excellent oral and written English language and communications skills
• Strong intercultural skills, team spirit, and willingness to travel internationally
• The following would be a plus: prior experience with data collection in Vietnam or other low- and middle-income countries; previous experience with remote sensing
