Intro
The International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) is seeking a temporary Consultant-Staff Attorney to provide legal services to displaced persons in Jordan. The Staff Attorney will manage a caseload focusing on drafting United States Refugee Admissions Program referrals. This role requires a law degree, active U.S. bar admission, and experience in providing legal services to immigrant, refugee, or displaced communities. Proficiency in English is required, Arabic proficiency is preferred. The position is full-time, based in Amman, Jordan, with compensation ranging from $265 to $370 per day.
Tasks
- Provide direct legal services to displaced persons
- Manage a full caseload of in-house cases
- Participate in vetting potential clients
- Represent clients in legal matters
- Draft United States Refugee Admissions Program referrals
Requirements
- Law degree and active admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction
- Minimum two years of experience post-US bar admission
- Experience providing direct legal services to immigrant, refugee, and/or displaced communities
- Knowledge of U.S. law regarding refugees, asylees, and/or human rights
- Experience with US family reunification immigration cases
- Excellent oral and written English proficiency
- Arabic proficiency preferred
- Experience working internationally in a multinational work environment
- Experience working with community-based and NGO partners
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Interest in the MENA region
