Tasks
The main purpose of the job is to provide specialist technical support to manage and run the electronic lab and motion capture facilities of the Age-Appropriate Human-Machine Systems (AHMS) group to help the AHMS team achieve its strategic research and teaching objectives.
The post-holder will be expected to interact with other technical staff involved in supporting AHMS research and teaching, and to assist in the maintenance and management of equipment, instrumentation, and laboratory facilities.
Duties will include:
- handle day-to-day operations and coordination of the laboratories under the supervision of the Chair
- ensure all equipment is maintained, serviced, and repaired as required, including scientific instruments
- oversee the maintenance of laboratory infrastructure for teaching and research, including equipment procurement and servicing
- monitor and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety procedures
- provide technical support and supervision for students, researchers, and external users, including troubleshooting experimental equipment
- perform various technical writing tasks, such as operations manuals and new product specifications
- troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and design circuits and electronic test equipment
- manage network access, implement security precautions, and assist users with the computer network
Requirements
- successfully completed (technical) university degree (Bachelor's/FH diploma) in a quantitative/technical field (e.g. computer science, engineering or comparable) or other employees with equivalent skills and experience in corresponding activities
- hands-on experience with measurement technology, electronics, and electronic prototyping
- programming and scripting experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Java)
- proficiency in both English and German, as both are used for communication and instruction within the workgroup or the willingness to learn the missing language
Desirable:
- experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Data Science is highly desirable
- strong problem-solving skills, including troubleshooting hardware issues
- ability to work collaboratively, identify challenges, and recommend solutions
