    Company describtion

The mission of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is medical translation: transferring biomedical research findings into novel approaches to personalized prediction, prevention, diagnostics and therapies and, conversely, using clinical observations to develop new research ideas. The aim is to deliver relevant medical benefits to patients and the population at large. Since 2021 the BIH has been integrated into Charité as its so-called third pillar.

The Sawitzki lab at the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin investigates the molecular mechanisms of immune cell activation and regulation to reveal how components of the immune response themselves become a trigger of destructive inflammatory reactions, like in the context of autoimmune disease or post-acute infections (post-COVID19). We are using state-of-the-art multi-omics technologies (cytometry, imaging, scRNAseq) as well as in vitro perturbation cultures to dissect causalities behind compositional changes of immune cells. We are an international research group and closely involve our technical assistants in our research projects. We are looking for a highly research-interested, motivated and flexible technical assistant for our new BMBF-funded research project “CURE-ME” to support the analysis of the immune cells in Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).

For the team of Prof. Dr. Birgit Sawitzki in the area of Translational Immunology starting from the March 01, 2025 until October 31, 2027 we are looking for a Technical assistent (d/f/m) in full-time (38.5h/week).

    What you can expect

The candidate will support the scientific staff in a project that aims to understand the link between EBV, EBV-related and other autoantigens as drivers of aberrant immune cell responses and autoimmunity in ME/CFS.

    This includes the following tasks:

    • Preparation of patient samples from human blood (e.g. PBMCs, serum, whole blood)
    • Preparation of patient immune cell samples for cytometric analysis including antibody preparation and coupling, staining of patient samples following standard protocols and measurements using flow or spectral cytometric analysis (or coordination with core facility for mass cytometry)
    • Preparation of patient samples and measurements using ELISA or Milliplex assay
    • Performance of in vitro assays following standard protocoll
    • You will work closely with international basic and data scientists in the execution of the project. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are key to rapid progress and success.

    What you bring along

    • Education/training as lab technician or technical assistant (BTA, MTA, biology laboratory technician or comparable) or a Bachelor (B.Sc.)/Master (M.Sc.) degree in natural sciences, both with long-time practical experience in an immunological laboratory
    • Experience in preparing patient samples from blood and tissue and in cell culture of primary cells
    • Profund experience in performing  flow cytometric and  mass cytometric measurements (more than 40 markers) in coordination with scientific staff
    • Profund experience in performing ELISA and Milliplex measurements
    • Experience in bioinformatic analysis on the basis of established protocols /pipelines in R in coordination with scientific staff
    • Structured, independent, and careful way of working, e.g. ability to implement a variety of laboratory techniques using standard protocols after a thorough training by our scientific staff members
    • Excellent spoken and written German and English
