    The Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project (JDCRP) Foundation is seeking a Student Assistant to support our IT and Data Officer and our Research and Documentation Officer as part of. This is a part-time limited position (until the end of May 2025) with a starting date as soon as possible.

    About Us

    The Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project Foundation, founded in 2019 by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) and the Commission for Art Recovery (CAR), is based in Berlin, Germany. The foundation is creating and populating a central scalable digital data repository for archival source material on the cultural plunder conducted during the National Socialist regime. In addition to the data repository, the JDCRP digital platform includes research and education projects that demonstrate the use of archival material in reconstructing the theft, as well as recalling the lives and cultural contributions of European pre-WWII Jewry. State-of-the-art technology is supporting the development of cross-archival links and improved search capabilities across various databases on objects, owners, and perpetrators, thereby revealing for the first time the full scope of the plunder to the extent possible. The archival project uniquely targets both specialists and the general public.

    Role Overview

    The Student Assistant will work closely with JDCRP’s IT and Data Officer, Research and Documentation Officer, and other Student Assistants, as part of the OCR Team. You will review and correct transcriptions of archival material, evaluate results, and safeguard quality according to the guidelines of the JDCRP. The goal of the OCR Team is to achieve the lowest possible error rate in transcriptions of archival documents and to continuously improve processes, guidelines, and documentation.

    Responsibilities

    Archival Documentation Support

    • Review transcriptions of archival documents on looted cultural objects.
    • Discuss findings with JDCRP’s IT and Data Officer as well as with the JDCRP’s Research and Documentation Officer.

    Qualifications

    • Interest in the field of cultural heritage, art history, and provenance research.
    • University enrollment with student status.
    • Grasp of complex information in a detail-oriented manner.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and in German.
    • Ability to conduct tasks independently after a briefing and onboarding.
    • A proactive and collaborative work style.
