Intro
The Senior Community-Based Protection Associate role involves working directly with communities to identify risks and leverage their capacities for self-protection. The incumbent supports the application of community-based protection standards, operational procedures, and practices, spending a significant amount of time outside the office building relationships with persons of concern. Responsibilities include program planning, budget monitoring, capacity building, and ensuring community understanding of UNHCR's commitment to accountability and quality assurance. The role also involves communication strategies, risk management, and responding to protection concerns and incidents.
Tasks
- Integrating participatory and community-based approaches in protection strategy
- Staying informed about political, social, and cultural developments affecting protection environment
- Working with host communities and partners to improve protection of persons of concern
- Developing community-owned activities to address various concerns
- Conducting analysis on community capacities and risks
- Planning and monitoring programs with an AGD perspective
- Building capacity for participatory and community-based approaches
- Supporting establishment of representation and coordination structures
- Ensuring community understanding of UNHCR's commitment to accountability and quality assurance
- Contributing to UNHCR communication strategies with participatory and community-based approaches
- Acting as an interpreter and responding to routine queries
- Enforcing compliance with global protection policies and standards
- Approving individual payment requests for PoC
- Identifying and managing risks impacting objectives
- Performing other related duties as required
Requirements
- 4 years of relevant experience with High School Diploma or 2 years with Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of Development, Human Rights, International Law
- Background in Social Work, Social Science, Political Science
- IT and computer literacy
- Familiarity with UNHCR administrative rules and procedures
- Understanding of community-based protection principles and methodologies
- Strong stakeholder management and coordination skills
- Capacity building experience
