    Scientific employee (m/f/d) Development of efficient grating-stabilized multi-junction multi-kilowatt diode lasers for fusion

    The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) is an application-oriented research institute in the fields of high-frequency electronics, photonics and quantum physics. It researches electronic and optical components, modules and systems based on compound semiconductors. These devices are key enablers that address the needs of today’s society in fields like communications, energy, health, and mobility. It covers the entire value chain from design to ready-for-delivery systems.

    GaAs-based diode lasers and their modules are the most efficient and powerful light sources and key components for industry. FBH's High Power Diode Lasers Lab is researching the next generation of these sources with the aim of continuously increasing output power, brilliance and conversion efficiency.

    Your tasks

    • Research for the most efficient multi-junction grating-stabilized diode laser bars in the multi-kilowatt class for industrial use in large laser systems - from particle acceleration to fusion
    • Design of efficient laser structures with existing and new numerical tools
    • Characterization of the realized laser diodes, including diagnosis of their performance limits
    • Collaboration with FBH experts to optimize the design

    Your profile

    • scientific university degree (Master's/Diploma) in physics, optics or electrical engineering
    • Relevant experimental and design experience with diode lasers and optical resonators
    • The ability to work in a team and excellent English skills
